Making Coffee Habits Sustainable in 2022

Sustainability is a hot topic these days as people become more and more aware of the need to protect our environment. There are many things that we can do to be more sustainable in 2022, such as using renewable energy sources, conserving water resources, and reducing waste. We'll talk about 3 ways you can make your coffee habits more sustainable this year!
Reducing Dairy Consumption
If you're taking part in Veganuary, you might already be doing this! Dairy production is harmful to the environment, and it takes a lot of resources to produce milk. Next time you're out for coffee, maybe try a milk alternative? We find Oat milk pairs well with most coffees, and it's the most environmentally friendly!
Carry a Reusable Coffee Cup
One of the easiest ways to reduce your environmental footprint is by bringing a reusable coffee cup with you every time that you go out for coffee. The UK wastes nearly 2.5 billion disposable cups a year! Coffee shops are starting to provide incentives, such as discounts or free drinks when customers use their own cups rather than disposable ones. We always carry one in our bag when we're out just in case!
Buying Speciality Coffee
You might have seen symbols and logos on coffee such as FairTrade, Rainforest Alliance or UTZ Certified. These are a good first step for more environmentally friendly coffee. Buying Speciality coffee is a step further! This means coffee which has been scored 80+ on auction.
All of our coffee we source and roast at Halvo is defined as Speciality and has scored 80+. The farming practices that are required to produce specialty coffee are often more environmentally friendly to protect the delicate nature of growing coffee.
There are many ways to be more sustainable in 2022, and these are just a few examples. By making small changes to your everyday habits, you can help reduce your environmental impact and make a difference for the future of our planet.
